Great crossing through the Mongolia

From East to West of Mongolia is consisted with journey of 3000 km. On average 4-8 hours driving per day for whole 21 days trip is available here. Russian-made vehicles like a 4x4 minibus are perfectly suited to this terrain and which our drivers have mastered with the mechanics in case of failure, however if you are not comfortable with these type of vehicles we can offer you more options. Maximum places a person in Russian bus 8 people including driver seat. This trip can take place in reverse if you wish. The steps can be changed on site due to weather, safety, organization, flight times or any unexpected event. In these difficult times, the local guide will do anything to mitigate the effects of these events beyond our control.

Day 1: Fly to Ulaanbaatar.
Flight to Ulaanbaatar with stopover.

Day 2: Arrive in Ulaanbaatar.
Arrive in Ulaanbaatar. Welcomed at the airport by our guide and transfer to the hotel. Rest for a while in the hotel room, and visit to Gandan Monastery, Museum of National History, Bogd Khan Winter Palace and Zaisan Hill etc. Overnight in a hotel after having a traditional dinner in a local restaurant.

Day 3: Ulaanbaatar - Kharkhorin Erdenezuu monastery.
Breakfast at the hotel and departure to Kharkhorin, the ancient capital of Mongolia. Arrive in Kharkhorin of Uvurkhangai province; visit the monastery of Erdenzuu, which is World Heritage of Sino-Tibetan style with 108 stupa built around the 13th century. After visiting the monastery, we are heading to the tourist ger camp, located in the banks of the river. Opportunity to take a short hikes for 2 hours, or climb to the hill with a view of the city and the beautiful scenery. Dinner and overnight in a ger camp.

Day4: Kharkhorin - Monastery Tuvkhun.
After having a breakfast, we would directly departure to the monastery of Tuvkhun. Today you will discover nomadic lifestyle and livestock. Arrival at bottom of the mountain Khutang, and after having a lunch then we hike to the monastery Tuvkhun, easy walk will take about 2 hours approximately, and for those who do not wish to walk uphill, the local horses are available. Day 5: Tuvkhun - Orkhon.
Drive to the valley and the National Park Orkhon, in the route you will see herds of yaks, alpine scenery.  Once arrive in Orkhon, we will visit a waterfall, it is a place where many Mongolian come in holiday season. In the afternoon we have free time and here you can ride a horse. Bivouac

Day 6: Orkhon - Tsetserleg.
Drive to the city of Tsetserleg across the chains of Khangai Mountains. Arrival in the Tsetserleg soum, we will visit the museum and monastery. Continue heading to Ikhtamir. In the afternoon, there is time for horseback riding and visit nomadic families. Overnight in tent.

Day 7: Tsetserleg - Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake.
Departure to the salt lake of Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur, which is 1312 m above sea level, with an area of 252 km2, and 24km long and 11 km wide. To get there we follow the northern edge of the Khangai and grassy hills. After gorge Chuluut, we set up camp at Terkhiyn Tsagaan Lake (passing by the village Tariat). 

Day 8: Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake - Khorgo - Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake.
After having a breakfast we head towards to the Khorgo volcano about 15 km away and back to the camp during a lunchtime. Near the Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake, we can enjoy horse riding and hiking about ¾ hours to the west, dinner and overnight in tents.

Day 9: Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake - Ider River.
Early depart to a nice, long day ahead of us. We are moving towards to the west hills and amazing landscapes with pine forests; you will also discover the yak pastures, sheep and goats. Crossing the mountain Solongot to bivouac along the Ider river. Pass through the village of Ikh Uul. Overnight in tent.

Day 10: River Ider - Uliastai.
Head to the city of Uliastai with spectacular scenery.  The landscape changes little bit by seeing fewer animals and yurts. Having lunch along the way and arrive to the town of Uliastai. Visit the monastery and blue stupas overlooking the city, visiting the local market. Overnight in the local hotel.

Day 11: Uliastai - Dunes of Bor Hyar - Khar Lake (Black Lake).
After breakfast, we drive to the Khar lake through several small collars and chains of Baruun Mountains. On the way, we visit a nomadic family and then reach at the Khar Lake. Today we will walk through the dunes, beautiful landscapes, camping near the dunes and overnight in tents.

Day 12: Dunes of Bor Hyar - Khar Lake - Lake Khyargas - Village Urgamal.
In the morning, drive to the village of Urgamal. There is beautiful landscape of dunes and mountains around the lake. This morning we set off to discover the source of the river Khungiu in the desert, we can walk about 3 hours through the dune. Continuation of the road, arrived in a small village, visit it and camp near the village, dinner and overnight in tents.

Day 13: Village Urgamal - Lake Khyargas.
Breakfast and drive to Lake Khyargas where we will discover many camels. The Khyargas Lake is the 3rd largest lake in Mongolia located 1028 m above sea level, is 75 km long and 31 km wide, nestled in the southern mountain of Khan Khukhiin. You can swim in the lake and also observe many birds as well as sunrise and sunset, encampment in the national park, dinner and overnight in tents.

Day 14: Lake Khyargas.
Quiet day in front of the huge lake, a short walk in the afternoon around the lake  and back to camp, over night in tents.

Day 15: Lake Khyargas - Altai.
After Lake Khyargas our track continues to Bayan-Ulgii province and Umnugovi province through the Altai Mountains. Camping near the small town Hovd, overnight in tents. Caution here is a lot of mosquito!

Day 16: Altai - Ulgii - Lake Tolbo.
Depart to the town of Ulgii following the river, a city mainly inhabited by Kazak citizens. After arrived in Bayan Ulgii aimag, we will visit the local museum and the local home market next to the lake Tolbo. Bivouac

Day 17: Lake Tolbo - Tsambagarav the Glaciers.
We go up to the glaciers of Tsambagarav our bus brings us up to 2 600m above sea level, can make a beautiful hike about 5 hours approximately. During our trip we visit the Kazak nomads, nomads camp near the middle of the snowy mountains. Overnight in tents. 5/6 hours of driving about 70 km away.

Day 18: Glaciers of Tsambagarav - Ulgii.
After breakfast, we leave the mountain, its so welcoming to return to the small town of Ulgii. In the afternoon, we are free to visit the city and enjoy its market. Camp near the airport, overnight in tents. 3/4 hour drive about 100 km. Caution there is lot of mosquito!

Day 19: Ulgii - Ulaanbaatar.
Fly to Ulaanbaatar. Arrival and transfer to the hotel and free in the evening.

Day 20: City tour in Ulaanbaatar.
City tour around Ulaanbaatar such as Monastery of Gandan, the Chinggis square and its museums, cashmere shops etc. You can make your last purchases. This safety day is used to compensate for the possible cancellation of the internal flight to weather or other reasons. Overnight at hotel.

Day 21: Back to home country
According to the flight schedules, transfer to the airport in the morning or evening.
